From Colleagues to Co-Founders;

We help clients Plan & Prosper

By Ruthanne Monteleone, CFP® & Seth Borders CFP®, CPWA®

Starting a financial advisory firm isn’t something you do lightly or on a whim. It’s something you do when you’ve spent years seeing how things work—and imagining how they could work better. With over 25 years of experience between us, we knew we were ready to build something that reflected not just our credentials and expertise, but our values, our shared vision, and most importantly, the needs of the people we serve.

Why We Launched Plan & Prosper

Our decision to start Plan & Prosper wasn’t born from frustration or complacency— it was born from vision. We both reached a point in our careers where we wanted more freedom to serve clients the way we felt they deserved: with no compromises, no red tape, and no corporate distractions. Just honest, personalized financial planning done the right way.  We saw the same shortcomings: clients being underserved, important life transitions being glossed over, and financial planning becoming increasingly generic and impersonal. We wanted better for our clients. Without hesitation we knew the best way to turn that vision into reality was to build it together. By co-founding our own firm, we could finally create an experience that puts clients first in an environment that gave us complete control to fulfill our fiduciary responsibility. We don’t just want to answer questions—we want to help clients ask better ones.

A Shared Commitment to Putting People First

We (Seth & Ruthanne) met on our very first day at our old firm—which, believe it or not, was April Fools’ Day. It was a fitting start for a partnership that’s grown into something more like family. Over the years, we’ve come to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses in a way that perfectly complements who we each are. Seth, the methodical optimist who brings calm and clarity, and Ruthanne, the action-oriented planner who ensures every detail is carefully addressed.

That balance is at the heart of Plan & Prosper. While our personalities differ, we share one deep commitment: building genuine, lasting relationships with our clients.  For us, it’s not about pushing products or meeting quotas—it’s about helping real people and guiding them through complex, emotional, and sometimes vulnerable financial decisions with empathy, clarity, and confidence.

Who We Serve—and Why

At Plan & Prosper, we specialize in helping individuals and families going through life transitions—whether it’s a career change, divorce, the loss of a spouse, or the complex path to retirement.

Many of our clients come to us overwhelmed and uncertain. Our job is to simplify the process and help you see that you’re often in a better place than you think.

We also work closely with executives, business owners, and families navigating complicated financial decisions. Whether it’s optimizing a stock plan, preparing for generational wealth transfer, or making sense of retirement timelines, we provide a clear, coordinated plan built around your real life—not a model or template.

Regardless of your personal situation, job title, or main concern, we strive to provide every client with care, diligence, and our undivided attention. The reason we’re successful isn’t our drive, or certifications, it’s because of the trust you’ve placed in us. That trust isn’t something we take lightly, and we couldn’t be more appreciative for the opportunity to serve our clients.

The Plan & Prosper Difference

We built this firm to be:

  • Relational, not transactional. Our process starts with listening.
  • Fiduciary and independent. We are always on your side, period.
  • Team-based. We bring two minds—and more—to every client challenge.
  • Comprehensive. From tax strategy to retirement income, we cover it all.
  • Grounded in education. We help you understand your options, not just choose them.

Clients often tell us they feel a sense of calm after our meetings—not because we make everything perfect, but because we help them finally see the big picture with clarity and confidence.

Why Now?

This moment in time is financially complex for many Americans. Changing interest rates, market volatility, healthcare costs, and shifting tax laws are just a few of the factors that make sound planning more critical than ever.

People aren’t just looking for help managing money—they’re looking for stability, answers, and a trusted advocate in their corner.

That’s what we’ve built Plan & Prosper to deliver.
